What is the Registration Program?

Schools and learning services can arrange for the registration of students.  This enables access to DET teachers and courses on a fee-for-service basis. This service is especially designed for students who would benefit from flexible learning.

Students are registered on a part-time basis, e.g. 0.6 with DET, with the student’s school providing 0.4 support for transition, social work or certain subjects e.g. Health and well being, ICT or cooking.

The program is available to all schools and learning services within the Department of Education.

What is the difference between a Registration and an enrolment at DET?

DET enrolled students are those who are ill, travelling, pregnant, isolated or who qualify within the exceptional circumstances criterion. These students usually receive a full educational program and consider DET to be their home school.

Registered students continue their enrolment in the school that arranges their registration (their home school). They access DET teachers and courses as part of their individual education program.

How does it work?

  • an initial phone conversation or email to DET from the school indicates that they wish to access the program
  • if flexible learning is considered suitable, DET accepts a provisional registration
  • DET staff travel to meet with school staff, the student and, importantly, key family members
  • a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is drafted which clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of all participants
  • reviews of the MOU occur regularly (following a 6 week assessment of the initial registration)
  • DET staff provide assessment and reporting information, on request, to fit the school’s reporting calendar
  • the school/Learning Service is invoiced by Finance, Facilities and Business Support, DoE
